Thankful Thursday!

So I've decided to spice up the blog a bit (mostly because lets face it, our lives are not that exciting right now). I got the idea to do Thankful Thursday from a few other blogs I've read and I figured its a good way to remember how awesome God is and how much we love our life. So on to my first Thankful Thursday...

Since Blake and I don't have any children (and won't for quite a while!) we are a little over
obsessed with our dogs. Ok that might be a little misleading...I'll still be just as obsessed with them even when we do have children! So some might call me pathetic but today I had to drop my little Nina off at the vet to get her teeth cleaned. No big deal right?! Well if you were holding a little shaky poodle (maltipoo to be exact) and signing a form saying 'although the procedure is safe there could be complications' you would be sad too! Anyways! I figured what better first Thankful Thursday than our doggies?!

Nina is a white maltipoo that I
got for Christmas from my parents my junior year of college. Don't let her 5 pound stature, pink collar, and white fluffy hair fool you, this girl has some serious 'tude! Love her to death but she just does not get the fact that she weighs 5 pounds and NO ONE would ever be scared of her.

This is Nina the very first day I got her. Angelic right?!

My favorite picture of her! Wouldn't it break your heart to leave this cutie?!

Now for Nina's brother. Blake got Vinny during his sophomore year of college. Vinny is a border collie mix of some sort that he rescued from the pound. He hates big trucks, loves squeaky toys, and is a little (or maybe a lot) neurotic. We just love him to death though and he provides us with endless amounts of
entertainment.

Vinny taking a break from squeaking his toy to pose for the picture.

Vinny dressed as a lobster a few Halloween's ago. He pretty much hated us for this and refused to wear the head piece.

So all in all, I am so thankful for our little puppy babies. They are super lovable and always happy to see us when we come home. We also spend lots of time talking about their lives, what they are thinking, who they were before being a dog, etc (don't judge us). What would we do without this entertainment?!

And that my friends, is what I am thankful for today (among many other things!).

a few of my favorite things

at the moment anyways!

  • the digital griddle is seriously the best thing EVER made. i make breakfast on it quite often during the weekends. (im still working on getting up in time for this during the week...not so successful yet...!) But really it makes breakfast so easy and yummy!

  • im kind of obsessed with this bedding from crate and barrel right now. ok maybe more than kind of since i look at it WAY to often. i reallllly want to put it in our guest bedroom but unfortunately its a little out of my budget for the time being. maybe it will go on sale? or maybe ill cave..no i will not cave. i am on a "we budget our money and i'm sticking to the plan" kick right now and i dont want to break that. because it could very well be a slippery slope after that...

  • so pretty much i just looove peter thomas roth and every single product i have ever tried but i especially love this masque. talk about a stress reliever! and during the summer when its 110 degree out (yes 110..crazy texas weather), putting on this refreshing, tingly masque is wonderful! and afterwards my face is so smooth..i just love it!

  • ok so this is only a recent development that i like mojitos. now i have to say..i looove them! this mix is so good. who would have thought a little bottle from target would change a non-mojito person into a mojito lover!??!
Anywaysss i think im getting a little spoiled the second half of this summer on working in the afternoon and having class only twice a week. It's going to be a serious reality check in the fall when I start leaving our apartment at 7am some days for my practicum all the way out in the middle of nowhere! But im enjoying the little bit of summer left until then! and we have lots of fun things coming up soon including (but not limited to!): Wicked, a bachelorette party for my friend Katelyn in Kansas City, her and Jordan's wedding in California(!), Ranger's games, and hopefully a few more visits to Dallas and Austin to visit some fun friends!

in the meantime..we'll try to enjoy the cool front coming in this week (highs are only in the mid-90's! woohoo..wow pathetic)

We now have a guest room! Well, it is still in the works but its coming along. So this means we actually have room for people to stay when they come visit us. (So that means we need some visitors!) When we got our bed, I figured we would put my old bed in the 2nd bedroom/office for visitors. Blake though really did not seem to think it would all fit and so therefore we were instead going to cart it off to be stored.

Well this weekend, Blake spent a few days in Dallas playing golf and visiting a friend and so I figured, what better time to set up the room and see if it works! And it did! It took a lot of rearranging and muscle work but its now all set up and everything fits. I didn't tell Blake about it until he came home and surprisingly he thought it worked great too. So now I am just on the hunt for some bedding that I love for the room and then officially it will be up and running.

Saturday was 3 months from the day Blake and I got married! These past 3 months have flown by so fast. We went out to dinner and to a wine bar with some friends for a little mini celebration for ourselves.

Now we are right back into our school/work routine for the week. Is it sad that when Monday comes I am already looking forward to and thinking about the weekend?! Not that we have any big plans but just for a break from class and work and some time to relax.

I will leave you with a picture I just uploaded of Blake and I that I really love.

wishing i went to hogwarts

This past weekend was one of those that makes me thankful to have such great friends! Blake and I both still keep in touch with a good number of our friends from high school and I feel like that is somewhat uncommon among our fellow college grads. I once heard that a quality to look for in a guy was someone who still kept in touch with at least one friend from their childhood. It shows that they are loyal and value the blessing of friendship. I think thats awesome and am so glad we can both say we have the best friends ever! Sooo our weekend..!

To start the weekend off, I went to my friend Laura's Southern Living party. She just recently became a consultant and had a cute little fiesta at her house. I snagged a few cute things and one sale. How much better does it get?! Now I have so many ideas of things I want to do in our apartment. Ohhhh to have a real job one day(aka real income)..it will be so nice!

Saturday we woke up bright and early to meet at our friend Michael's house to float the river. Floating is one of my most favorite summer activities because it is just so relaxing and such a great chance to spend some quality time with good friends.

(front row): Deanna, Laura, me, Paige

After we spent hours cooking in the sun and floating down the river, along with about a million other people apparently looking for a break from the heat as well, we had dinner in Gruene at the
Gristmill. This has been our summer tradition since the summer after senior year of high school and we plan to keep it up for many years to come!

After indulging in my obsession, I mean Chuys, on Sunday, Blake and I headed back to Waco so I could get ready for class to start up again on Monday. woo...

Now anyone who knows me at all, knows that I love me some Harry Potter. I've preordered every book, seen and own all of the movies, and even went to a Harry Potter party at a friends house on the opening night of the 2nd movie (don't judge me). So of course, I have been excited for a long time for July 15. Last week my friend Jessica and I decided that we had to see the midnight showing of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Therefore, last night I dragged my poor, loving husband along with me to see it. Granted by the time it ended, all I could think about was getting in my bed, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. Yes, they left out some major parts that would have made the movie even better, but overall I thought it was great. And that Emma Watson is just so dang beautiful!

Well, on that note, I believe its time for me to return to So You Think You Can Dance. (gahhh I wish I were a dancer!)

The Story of Us

Whew this blogging thing is a little more difficult than i expected it would be. Every time I plan to sit down and post something, i get distracted with something else. Anywaysss as I said in my last post, I wanted to do a little "about us" post to share the story of how we became The Harbours.

Blake and I both grew up in Round Rock and went to school together from 1st grade all the way through graduation from high school. We were friends when we were younger and still had mutual friends as we grew older but there never was any sort of romantic interest. (except apparently in 5th grade when, after looking back through my old diary, apparently he was #5 on the "boys i like" list) After high school, i went straight to Baylor and Blake went to the University of Kansas.

Fast forward 2 years. I was meeting my roommate on campus for lunch when, gasp, who did i run into?! Blake Harbour. We exchanged numbers and there began a twice a week lunch date in between our classes. Not long afterward, we officially became a couple.
This is one of our first pictures as a couple. We look so young!

We got engaged February 17, 2008 in San Antonio, TX while we were on what I though was some sort of "conference" for the company that he was interning with at the time. Little did i know that was all a big scam and really i was about to experience the greatest surprise of my life! Here we are right after getting engaged on the balcony of our hotel room overlooking the Riverwalk.

We spent the next year and two months planning our wonderful wedding (which was exactly what we both dreamed it would be!). We were married on April 18, 2009 at the Winfield Inn in Kyle, TX. Luckily, after a very rainy wedding eve and a rainy wedding morning, the sun decided to show its face and the weather was perfect. And to top it off, apparently it's good luck to rain on your wedding day?! Who knew! "The Kiss" at our wedding

And now after many exciting steps, here we are, married almost 3 months. A wife to my best friend, who was right there all along.

So here is to a journey full of laughter, fun, and romance.

I'm jumping on the bandwagon..

After spending much time stalking, I mean reading, blog after blog, I have come to the conclusion that it is time to start one myself. At first I thought, "Are you kidding me?! Between school, work, and being a wife, I do not have time to keep up with a blog!". And that is probably true. And although our lives are not too exciting right now (school, work, eat, study, sleep, repeat), I figure it will be a good way to remember all of the memories of our first year (or the first couple of years) together.

Throughout the time we were dating, I attempted to keep a journal to remember all of our memories as we got to know each other and our relationship progressed. At first I did a really good job and I am happy to know that I have those memories documented so that I will never forget them. But as the novelty wore off, I journaled less and less. So this is my attempt at actually succeeding with my original plan.

So as I begin our "newlywed blog" I realize I am a little behind considering the fact that we have been married a little over two months already. In my future blogs, I plan on backtracking just a bit to document some of what has happened so far in our lives together. Since I am still figuring out this whole blogging thing, and I am on Blake's computer (aka no fun pictures to post), I will continue with those posts later.

So instead I will leave you with this quote:
Love is all it's cracked up to be. That's why people are so cynical about it.
It's worth fighting for, being brave for, risking everything for. And the
trouble is, if you don't risk anything, you risk even more. -Erica Jong
